I spent Wednesday in Georgia touring our project with the head scientist working on it, a co-worker and a gentlemen from another company that does the same thing. He was very impressed. One of the things the company I work for prides itself on is going far beyond what is required by regulations/law. I had never had the tour before. It was a great learning experience. However, it was cold. It was 36*F at Noon when we finished the tour and there was a 20+ mph wind. I was mostly dressed for it. I did forget my had and I do not have good warm gloves. That will be remedied. But, being out in the fresh air, walking miles of stream really helped my mood a lot.
Yesterday, I was just all out with meetings and trying to schedule a variety of trips for my boss. I never really had time to think about anything. Today, we have SNOW!! It has been snowing since 7 am and continues still at a heavy wet pace. I’d say we have more than 2 inches of accumulation now. It is very wet and and since it is 34*F, it is melting some also. However, tonight’s low is predicted to be 21*F. That means this very wet snow is going to be ice and lots of it.
We are having loads of fun in it. We are learning how to make snowballs for fights. You pack them too tight and they hurt. I caught a large heavy one in my low back. The lightly packed ones are fun because they explode on impact. If you can manage a high chest hit, they get a face full of snow. We’ve made several snowmen. One is about 5 ft tall. The others are smaller. Cricket made a snow horse.
The little puppy who is still nameless is loving it. Forrest, our 5 year old lab mutt just seems to think it is another day even through I don’t think he’s seen this in his lifetime. We had a light dusting last winter.
I’m hoping the power stays on but if it doesn’t, we’re prepared. And, there is chili and cornbread for supper.

I think I mentioned I was traveling for business. Savannah is a beautiful city. However, 12+ hours in 36 hours in a truck for a 3 hour meeting is rough. Dinner, however, was exceptional and I got to see a little shop I’d been reading about. Still at work today. More later when I recover.

As my duties around the office have changed, I’m traveling a little more. Next week will be my first overnight trip. I’m a bit nervous and excited. I won’t be traveling alone, thankfully. It’s a long drive for a short meeting. Then, dinner with clients, an overnight stay and drive home.
The exciting part is meeting new people and seeing a beautiful city I haven’t seen in 25 years or more. But, I’m nervous about leaving my family. I rarely travel without DH. When I have, it has been to stay with my best friend. I’ll miss DH and Cricket and Bugaboo. It’s weird to think of missing the morning routine and kisses goodnight. I’ll have to see about setting the webcam up on my tablet.
The hotel is a nicer “brand” of a big chain. It was the cheapest room I could find in walking distance of the meeting. It is a king suite. It was cheaper than the queen suite or even the lesser “brand” of the same chain that was a couple of block farther away from the meeting. There is some conflicting information about internet service. One page say complimentary wireless and another one says internet is not free. I can use my phone as a modem. Not ideal but sufficient.
I found some neat restaurants and stores I’d love to visit but we won’t have time on this trip. One place has products made from honey, fresh local honey! It is supposed to be great anti-aging “cream”. It is amazing what is in honey and what it can do. Next time, maybe.

We are alive and well after this non-hurricane Ida. We are very wet. 4+ inches so far and it’s still raining. I got to go up to the big city north of us. I love spending 4 hours driving in the rain. The interstate was just a mess I drove part of the way home on the US highway.
Bugaboo has been showing me some of the stuff she learned at camp but that’s another post. It’s time to cook supper.

The wild cat abandoned another kitten under our house yesterday. So we are not bottle feeding three 12 day old kittens. I have picture, honest, but work has me slammed so they are still on the camera.
Speaking of work, I spent 5 hours on the road yesterday and then worked late. I was here early this morning and haven’t had a chance to get out of here yet and am not sure when I will. It’s crazy. I did have some responsibility taken off me, some minor stuff — post office run, changing the back-up tape, etc. Those little things will actually help a lot.

Between a very long work day yesterday, some of it spent reading on GIS systems, a very busy day today and trying to study for my HAM license test between, my brain is fried. I have one project to complete before I can run my errands during what is supposed to be my lunch hour. I ate lunch at my desk while working. It’s now 1:22 and I’m not sure my errands are going to get done. I need to get out of the office for a bit. I was supposed to make a drive to a nearby city to pick up some stuff and couldn’t. My boss is on the drive. I was looking forward to some quiet time listening to a podcast on HAM radio. I’m stuck here with no window. I’m grumpy. Blogging will resume when I actually have something important to say.

I’ve been slowly making my way through the ARRL Ham Radio book for the technician’s license. It’s been a slow process because of my limited knowledge of electricity and because of time constraints. I’d like to finish a nice wool sweater before it gets cold. We’ve got a lot of shooting committments this month and I need to practice on top of it. Then work has been stretching my limits. Between my knowledge of computers, my knack with maps and everything else they keep discovering I can do, I feel like I’m pulled it 200 different directions at once sometimes. Now, I am learning about GIS systems and what I can do cheaply on my desktop or a laptop/netbook. More to read. I think I’m getting the two books mixed up. I wanted to read one of the Harry Potter’s again for some fluff but that’d really be a mess-up mixing potions with radio and GIS. I guess I’ll need to just stick to technical stuff for a while.

Well, to go with the pouring rain we’ve had for ten day and are to have for another 10, working is pouring in on me like a hurricane. Plus, my washing machine died yesterday. Chaos at it’s finest.

Work has been crazy lately. It is a good thing, especially in this economy. It is certainly keeping me on my toes. I feel like I need several more hours a day. Really what I need is a little more organization. Right now my office looks like a paper mill exploded. I’ve got five minutes or so to myself. I off to read some blogs I’ve been neglecting.

Instead of shooting, my boss in the town 90 miles away needed something. (I have five bosses — they are partners in the company I work for. I have one main boss I do everything for.) I met his associate halfway. It was a nice drive without much traffic in the middle of a Friday.
The drive is interesting. Remember, I live in the deep South. Along the way, I get to see a bill board that says “Go to Church or the Devil Will Get You”. On it, there is a large devil figure. A short time later, on the opposite side of the road is a Very Large Confederate Battle Flag. The Sons of Confederate Veterens sponsor its place on the very busy interstate. Then, a while later, there is a water tower painted as a giant peach. If you are coming from the north, it looks very much like it is painted as a large butt. You don’t realize it is a peach until you get to the other side and see the leaf painted on it. Maybe it’s Adam’s leaf?
It was an enjoyable drive, much more pleasant than being cooped up at my desk but I’d have been nice to get to the range. I did listen to some news. I have a lot of comments brewing in my head on those but I doubt I’ll post them. I am becoming quite disgusted with American politics. Does anyone have any sense of reason?
