They’re wrong again!

Instead of being 38*F and cloudy, it’s 50.5*F and sunny.  Yippeee!

Yesterday, we spend the beautiful day cleaning the deck and burning boxes from Christmas.  We are ready for spring.  In the past, we have grilled all year round.  This winter, not so much.  I have cooked inside more this winter than I did for the two years prior combined.  I’m looking forward to global warming coming back to Alabama.  I think the weather girl said this morning it’s been weeks since we’ve gotten up to the average high.  We are supposed to be in the low 60s this time of year.  There’s been days when we’ve been half that.

We named the puppy.  She loved chasing snowballs so our black puppy that has feet big enough for a great dane is names snowball.

More later, boss showed up.

The puppy

The puppy is a cute nearly solid black shepard mix. It has long legs. Its tail appears to have been cut short. It’s probably 1/4 the length it should be based on the leg length. It has a white mark on its chest and three white toes on each back foot. It is healthy and well-fed but otherwise appears to have been mistreated. It cowers mostly. Quick movements, even a distance from it, startle it. If you try to pet its face, it buries it in the floor or a corner. We’ve put feelers out to try and find the owner but since it appears to have been treated harshly, I’m not sure I want to find the owners. As small as it is, and knowing how our neighbors treat their pets, I am assuming it was dumped and therefore doubtful we’ll find owners. Pets already outnumber people 2 to 1. Now it will be 9 to 4.

Sign

I used to joke that my dad had a sign on his back saying “Follow me home, I will feed you” because regularly he found stray cats. I think the sign got transplanted on me. Cricket and Bugaboo just called. There’s a puppy under our deck, a little puppy. I remember thinking this morning as I was leaving that I didn’t remember tracks in the mud last night but brushed it off. Now I’m wondering if someone dropped the darn thing last night. Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs but pets already outnumbered humans in my house by a good many. AAAAACK!

Recovering

I’m slowly recovering. It’s been a long week. We all seem out of sorts at home. This weekend should be a bit quieter than the week has been. We need to get ball joints in my truck. That is our main goal. I really need to do some shopping for Cricket and Bugaboo. I’m tired of them wearing out new jeans. I think we need to go somewhere besides Kohls and JCPenneys to get jeans. They look cute and fit well then they blow out the knee in weeks.

Beat

I was beat when I got back yesterday. Then I drank too much wine and forgot to reset my alarm from Tuesday’s 0 dark 30 (3:30). The worse part is it took me three times of punching snooze for it to dawn on me to look at the clock. I was expecting to be late getting up. Instead, I had hours left to sleep. So, I feel worse today than I did yesterday.

Comfort foods

I am needing some comfort food. My body is tired and feels overworked despite me spending way too much time at a desk. My mind is racing at 200 mph. We’ve eaten some good meals lately. With me working more, DH has been doing a great job preparing supper with Cricket and Bugaboo’s help. They’ve been great. Somehow, though, they have not satisfied that need I have. I can’t put my finger on it. I want to say something slow cook because the time put into it would counter the break-neck speed I feel like I’m running at. Beef/deer also is tickling my senses when I think of them. Something wholesome, with lots of love put into it. I’ve been getting those two parts of it but what’s missing? What’s the food that brings you back to center?

Work, work, work

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas. We had a wonderful holiday with lots of family, food and good cheer. I made out well as did the girls. I got a .22 conversion kit for my AR-15, new coveralls, a new HAM radio for the house along with a cool antenna, warm jammies and slippers and lots more. The girls got cameras and clothes and toys. I love that they still enjoy toys.

Right now, it is back to the grind stone. I’ve barely had time to breathe today we are so busy. I hope to have a range report on my .22 conversion kit soon.

Aack!

My shopping isn’t started. The guest room still needs and bed and guests will be here tonight. I am so busy today at work, I probably won’t get to leave for lunch and will probably work late. I came in nearly an hour early.

And you know, all I can think about is shooting another tactical rifle match. That was just so much fun!

Running

These last three to four weeks of the year are usually quiet(ish). Not this year. We are in high-speed mode at work. The girls’ schedules are chaotic since Cricket is now in “high school” and taking exams. DH has been out of town some. My company had a big gathering in another state today we all went to. I have not had a chance to keep up with news, shooting, anything except the weather (to see if it’s going to rain again.) Now, my co-workers children have H1N1. I’m praying for them and that it stays at their house.

I am not much of a gadget person. I am often without a cell phone. I don’t have an MP3 player or PSP, etc. But I got a new smartphone for work the other day. I have to say, it rocks. I have everything I need at my fingertips. Email, contacts, weather, animated radar, GPS navigation (and I’m not paying the cell company for it), camera, games, mp3 player, fm radio, calculator, games and more. Now the one I had before did some of this and I had hacked it to do more. Right now I’m happy with this one and not too anxious to hack a new phone. I may want to more later as I get bored with the screens and stuff. But, since I have so much to play with now, that may be a while. One of the cool things I like is the GPS has aerial photos. I can see what’s off in the fields beside me as I drive.

Illness

I’ve been home sick in the bed for a couple of days, following a day of Bugaboo throwing up. I’m behind and slowly catching up. I’m swamped at work from missing two days (which I haven’t done for me being sick in years). More soon.
