Instead of being 38*F and cloudy, it’s 50.5*F and sunny. Yippeee!
Yesterday, we spend the beautiful day cleaning the deck and burning boxes from Christmas. We are ready for spring. In the past, we have grilled all year round. This winter, not so much. I have cooked inside more this winter than I did for the two years prior combined. I’m looking forward to global warming coming back to Alabama. I think the weather girl said this morning it’s been weeks since we’ve gotten up to the average high. We are supposed to be in the low 60s this time of year. There’s been days when we’ve been half that.
We named the puppy. She loved chasing snowballs so our black puppy that has feet big enough for a great dane is names snowball.
More later, boss showed up.

It looks like the puppy will be staying with us. It is not housetrained. It’s taking out the last two nights a couple of time. Tonight it is supposed to be very stormy. That will be fun. Hopefully I can get someone else to do it.
The other animals of the family are not so happy she’s around. She loves to jump and bark at the kittens trying to get them to play. She’s gotten swatted by little kitten nails a couple of times. I don’t think the big cats have gotten close enough to her to need to swat her. She needs it to realize she can’t pounce on the little things. She will grow much faster than they will.
I’m looking for another crate. We crate train our dogs. I was lucky to find the one we have now used for only about $30. It’s a $150 crate. I could use one the next size down. Hopefully one will come up soon in the classifieds paper. I may check Craig’s list too. Freecycle is another idea.

The puppy is a cute nearly solid black shepard mix. It has long legs. Its tail appears to have been cut short. It’s probably 1/4 the length it should be based on the leg length. It has a white mark on its chest and three white toes on each back foot. It is healthy and well-fed but otherwise appears to have been mistreated. It cowers mostly. Quick movements, even a distance from it, startle it. If you try to pet its face, it buries it in the floor or a corner. We’ve put feelers out to try and find the owner but since it appears to have been treated harshly, I’m not sure I want to find the owners. As small as it is, and knowing how our neighbors treat their pets, I am assuming it was dumped and therefore doubtful we’ll find owners. Pets already outnumber people 2 to 1. Now it will be 9 to 4.

I used to joke that my dad had a sign on his back saying “Follow me home, I will feed you” because regularly he found stray cats. I think the sign got transplanted on me. Cricket and Bugaboo just called. There’s a puppy under our deck, a little puppy. I remember thinking this morning as I was leaving that I didn’t remember tracks in the mud last night but brushed it off. Now I’m wondering if someone dropped the darn thing last night. Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs but pets already outnumbered humans in my house by a good many. AAAAACK!

The three little kittens are Griz, Orca and Polly. Polly got her name because she loves to sit on your shoulder and scream at you, kinda like a parrot. I personally think Loudmouth fits her better because she seems to scream if she’s awake, that’s not a good cat name. You know, writing that made me realize that must by why she and Bugaboo get along so well. Bugaboo screamed if she was awake for this first 6 months of her life. Now Polly is doing it. I hope Polly turns out as sweet as Bugaboo.

Of the three little kittens, two have names. Griz looks more like a werewolf than a kitten. He even has curly matted hair. Orca is black and white. She is sweet. The third one is just called little girl for now. She is a sweet loving little girl with no fear of heights and a voice as big as she is small. We’ve considered Rascal and Pipsqueak (or Pippy). She is the white and calico kitten. Any suggestions for names? Loudmouth comes to my mind but what kind of name is that?

Cricket and DH leave for camp at Ft. Benning after school. We were all up late last night finishing up reloading and packing. 1500+ .40 S&W loaded and checked and 400+ .45 ACP loaded and checked. Cricket packed enough clothing for a week which means I was washing like crazy. She doesn’t own much that fits. We need to go through her dresser again. She just doesn’t quit growing. Neither does Bugaboo.
We were up early with cranky kittens. I hope their upset tummies are worms or the introduction of semi-solid food. I think it is probably worms since it is all of them and the littlest hasn’t wanted much to do with solid food yet. They are now 5 weeks old and starting to play which means they are getting into everything. Thankfully, if you put them in the litterbox, they will use it. But, they aren’t big enough yet to get to it on their own. I mean, they could but we aren’t yet letting them have roam of the house.
So, my schedule today is work until mid-day. Then I head home to take the kittens to the vet. Then I head back to town to pick up Cricket and Bugaboo from school and drop Cricket off with DH so they can leave. We then head part of the way back home to pick up supper for my boss who had surgery on Monday. Then we turn around and head way out East to his house with supper. We then turn around and drive the hour home. I’ll be dizzy by the time Bugaboo and I get home for our supper. I really really want pizza but there won’t be time to make any and with our gluten intolerance, I can’t do delivery or frozen.

I’m off for the rest of the week. We are going camping again. We are going over to the Atlanta area to shoot the Georgia IDPA State match. I’m excited. But, I’m sick too. I have a cold. So far it’s not a bad cold but it’s there and I feel it. I don’t get sick often. The last time I was really sick was January 2008 with a bad cold. I had a 24 hour cold last winter. I woke up congested and sore throat one morning and it was gone the next. That is typical of my colds, especially if I use Zicam.
It look like the kittens won’t be going with us. I think we’ll be too busy to keep a good eye on them and if I do get sicker, I don’t want to listen to them cry to eat. It’s grating on my nerves now. But, they are so cute. It is very understandable why God made baby creatures so cute. No matter how much they scream, they still melt your heart. I know because Bugaboo screamed non-stop for the first three months of her life. Anyway, my mom is going to care for the three kittens, the two bigger kittens, our two guinea pigs and our dog. Shipmate! It’s no wonder I’m broke. I was at the pet store again yesterday. It is a local place and the same lady always checks me out. This was the third time in 2 weeks I’ve been in. We joked about what my animals are costing me now. I’ve spent $200 over the last two weeks on pets. At least in another week, the kittens can go to cheap formula instead of the expensive newborn stuff.
After we finish the match, we are probably headed to a gun show in Columbus, Georgia. It’s supposed to be good. I’m not sure the point of the side trip. Since I’ve spent so much on pets, I have no money for guns. But, I do need some ghost ring sights for my Mossberg. I can’t find anyone with any in stock.

First, it’s been down right cold for Alabama for October this weekend. It was 52, misty and very windy on Saturday for our montly IDPA match. I think I did fairly well. Sunday was sunny, 60*, and still windy. The sun made it tolerable. We were busy packing for an upcoming camping trip. Last night it was 38*!! It’s mid-October, not mid-November. The dog is like a puppy in this weather. The cats aren’t too happy. This is their first cold snap.
This coming weekend we are headed to Georgia for the Georgia State IDPA match. We are safety officers and will shoot on Friday. Cricket and Bugaboo are going with us this year. The little kittens will be left with my mom. We will miss them. But, this is one of my favorite matches of the year. You see a lot of people you don’t see regularly. This is a big match and it draws people from all over. We will be camping at the range. It makes sleeping a little later easier and we get a shower before supper after shooting all day. This may be the last time I shoot the M&P .40. I think Cricket is going to start shooting it regularly. We are almost out of 9mm bullets and aren’t happy with the last set we got anyway. Anyone else I contact has a waiting list until January. So, we may drop the 9s for a while. I would shoot .45 1911 and Cricket and DH will shoot .40s. I need to do a post about DH’s birthday. He loves the S&W 610 I got for him. He was completely surprised.
Between the cooler temps and all that is going on, the house is buzzing.

I promised pictures of the new kittens. Both of these pictures are of the first two. I thought I had a picture of the third one but it’s not on the card. This first picture gives you a size referenced. Those are my Smith & Wesson safety glasses.

This next picture is a good one of the two of them. The little white and brown one loves being on its back. The black on has white hairs all over its legs so it looks like he’s old.

Now, I am not crazy about cats. We’re debating what to do with these three. When there were just two, DH said we’d keep them both and have four. I’m fine with that as long as they all stay out like the bigger kittens do now. But, now, with the prospect of having five cats, we may be giving at least one away. It’s still up in the air. I think they’ll all be too attached in 4 more weeks. They are just 2 weeks old today.
