I wish like everything I hadn’t been in such a hurry yesterday. Riding down the highway near my house was a man on a horse. While he’s trying to manage this horse on the side of this busy highway, a cell phone is crammed between his shoulder and his ear. It was a hilarious sight. It was a much needed comical relief in an otherwise hectic, stress-filled day.

I think Roget’s Thesaurus needs a change. Under the entry for waste, the synonym should be government. I was standing in the post office today to get a certificate of mailing postmarked. On the billboard is an ad for P.O boxes and what each size costs for six months or a year. The teeny tiny P.O. box is $39 for six months and $70 for a year. The post office I was standing in is old. Based on the neighborhood around it, it was probably built in the 50s. I know it’s been there since the 70s. I grew up nearby. Those P.O. boxes have remained unchanged (except to be rekeyed) for decades. They have beautiful brass doors, each delicately numbered. There are few employees at this facility. It is a neighborhood facility. And yet, for all those little boxes, it costs $70 a year each. They don’t have to drive to your house to deliver the mail. They drop it neatly in a little box from the back. No maintenance on a jeep or panel truck. And yet, the post office is losing money every year. Millions of little boxes around the nation making them a fortune, probably far more than they should be spending on trucks and fuel and employees to bring it to you. And yet, you still pay for their convenience. And the mail is not even boxed until 9:00 a.m.

Can you believe how many zeroes are there? That is our current deficit in the U.S. government. Scared and speechless!

Apparently John Mellencamp does not understand the meaning of freedom of speech. Read what he said here! I hate to tell him, but, yes, it does mean I can be an asshole. And, yes, I’m proud of the men who have died to protect that freedom. The one voice of disagreement may be the one that needs to be heard most.

Xavier’s experience with a patient is touching and with Home Depot is infuriating. Don’t forget to thank a Vet today.
As an aside, does anyone know if Home Depot ever changed their policy on guns?

One lucky reader came to this blog yesterday by typing “chaos management US military” into a search engine. That’s a scary thought. I would hope that the military training provided during boot camp and after would provide the needed skills to handle chaos of a multitude of types. But, seeing the way the government handles the rest of the education process of America’s youth, maybe it doesn’t. Well, I’m sorry bub, but I haven’t figured it out yet either. Ask my husband, chaos is our life and we don’t manage it very well. But, we’re trying. Check back in a year or so. Maybe hitting 20 years together will clue us in.

First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their “right” to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our “democracy”. Pride blind the foolish

Texan Woman Told to Remove Flag from Office. I am just about speechless. I am certainly very angry. Apparently, the Texan in the article shares office space with others. One of the others is an immigrant. She was offended by the flag being put up in the office in recognition of Memorial Day. WTF!?! You came here. Obviously, we are such a great nation (because of our military whom we honor of Memorial Day) that you decided to stay. What do you find offensive about our flag? You are here voluntarily. If you don’t like it LEAVE!!!!!!!

The Department of Homeland Security has released a report on extremist. http://video1.washingtontimes.com/video/extremismreport.pdf defines a rightwing extremist as:
Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely.
There is also a blurb about opposing abortion and immigration. They also seem to be concerned that passing restrictive gun laws could fuel the fire. Veterans returning from war are mentioned also. I imagine my name was on DHS’s list long before this report. Though I’d love to come in under the radar, I am a little outspoken for that.

The story below is the kind of thing that makes me realize why America is in the shape it’s in. A government employee wants compensation for the lunch hour he missed during the massacre on April 3 in Binghamton, NY. He was locked down in his office and couldn’t take his lunch hour. It is reported that pizzas were brought in by bosses in those buildings locked down. I think this employee’s record needs to be looked at to see if his boss needs to bill him for personal stuff done on work time. Go read.
